5
SIGNS OF A BAD HVAC COMPRESSOR
Here’s a rundown of 5 common indications
that your HVAC compressor has gone bad.
- Strange Noise
Strange sounds are the most common sign
that there’s a problem with your compressor. Condensing units are really quite
loud, but when they start getting louder or begin to rumble or produce clicking
and rattling noise, you should suspect that something is wrong with your
system. It may indicate wear out in the electrical relay switch or struggle in
turning on.
- Moisture Leakages
If you see leaks around your HVAC
system, it could be a signal that something is not right. It is likely that the
refrigerants are dripping out of the compressor, which is not just a threat to
your system but to your health as well.
- Blown Fuses
Have you seen a faltered circuit breaker
in your air conditioner? Or does it start blowing fuses? This is already an
indication that something in your compressor needs attention. This problem can
arise when there are ground faults, overloaded circuits and mostly short
circuits.
- Warmer Air
Another sign that you are having a
problem with your HVAC compressor is when you feel a warmer air while using
your air conditioner. It’s an obvious sign since it works the exact opposite of
what it has to do. It is likely that the system is lacking the refrigerant that
is needed in cooling the air.
- Lack of air flow
If you feel lesser air flow coming out
of your AC vents, then your compressor might be experiencing a problem. The
compressor is the one generating cold air and if it goes bad, it may not
produce the amount of cold air that it needs to generate. As a result, less air
will come out of your AC.
Once you experience these signs on your
HVAC systems, better consult a heating and cooling contractor to give you precise
diagnosis and possible solutions to prevent major problems in the future.
